All is right in the little town of Gruene, Tx (pronounced "green", like the color). Yesterday was a marketday in Gruene and it happened to coincide with a perfectly beautiful day here in Central Texas. It's not too far south from Austin, it takes just short of an hour to get there. Forty-five to fifty minutes, maybe. We're resolved to take more daytrips this year. We've just about turned into two middle-aged shut-ins. There's no excuse. Oh, we make excuses (dogs, garden, errands, chickens, car worries) but really, there's none to be had.
One of the great things about getting the new camera is that it has motivated us to get out so that I can experiment with it. I read quite a bit of the Canon G15 book on Saturday, so by Sunday I was ready to snap the shutter. Here are a few shots from Gruene:
The watertower serves as a landmark. The dance hall and Gristmill Resturaunt
are right near it.
There are a lot of vendors selling wares. This couple had
colorful glass decor for the garden.
It was St. Paddy's Day so there was a leprechaun dog, of course!
our table sat overlooking the river
It was a beautiful day. On the way home we stopped at the outlet mall and Michael picked up a couple of pairs of Van's. He almost took home a pair of running shoes as well but had second thoughts. Before we knew it, everything closed. It was 7 p.m. already.
We're already planning our next outing. I don't know where we'll go. The Austin Funky Chicken Coop Tour is right around the corner so we might just stay in town for that. It's the time of year for all sorts of events and activity. You don't have to travel far to find fun around here!

Hey, Roberta, what are Van's? Shoes? Pants?

Van's are shoes! I think they've been around forever, maybe. A little like Keds.

They're pretty inexpensive and a good all around casual lightweight tennis shoe. Kind of old school.

I'm glad you're enjoying your camera ... it's capturing lots of fun :)

It IS fun! It is reminding me of how much I enjoyed photography in Santa Fe. I went to Santa Fe Community College shortly after the art department there received a very large gift and put in a state of the art darkroom. It was better than the one at my 4 yr. college. It was great. There is so much to learn. I am frustrated at how long it is taking me to learn about the new camera. I'd like to be completely fluent with all of it's features and then in a year or two move on up to a DSLR. I'd like to take a photography workshop. I feel like I am starting all over again.
